The building itself has lots of attractions in regards of its architecture. Formerly it was the residence of Ghavam Al- saltaneh the minister of Ahmad Shah Qajar & then the Egyptian embassy. You will find glass objects since pre Islamic times even from Elamid era (1000 BC) which were excavated from Chogha Zanbil Zigurat .
Abgineh Museum (موزه آبگینه تهران ) is a glass history museum located just next to the Iran National museum. The building itself has a lot to say in regard of its architecture and history as it was Formerly the residence of Ghavam Al- saltaneh the important minister of Ahmad Shah Qajar . he was a very politician with highlighted rule in contemporary Iranian political history . he became repeatedly interior & foreign minister in Qajar and then Pahlavi dynasty governments for more than 30 years .
After he got the position in government ordered to build this property in an area of 7000 square meters in a good location of Tehran . He stayed in this house from 1921 till 1952 . this house is located in 30 of tir avenue ( 20th jul – Tir is a month in Persian calendar ) and named as a memorial of what happened in this special day . in 20th jul 1951 following to public demonstration against Ghaval Al saltaneh , Phalavi king – mohammad reza had no other way but to lay off him from ministry . After that, Ghavam left Iran and four years later passed away and his property had been given to Egyptian embassy. In 1977 the house renovated to become glass museum .
Every year there are almost 2 milion visitors visit this museum . You will find glass objects since pre Islamic times even from Elamid era (1000 BC) which were excavated from Chogha Zanbil Zigurat . It is recommended to visit both Abgineh & Iran national museum as there is a walking distance between them .
Glass museum is by walking distance of other historical & cultural attractions such as Iran National museum, Post museum , Golestan Palaces & Tehran Grand bazaar . You may visit them all together in 4 to 5 hours . If you would like to visit them individually it is recommended to pay a visit in weekends ( in Iran Thursdays & Fridays ) as there are all located in Tehran market place witch is a bit noisy & have heavy traffic . also all of these places have entrance fees & it takes time to purchase the tickets .
