GILAN , Greenness & Lovely Rainings

Gilan province is one of the three provinces located on the Caspian sea coastline & wettest province in Iran with more than yearly 3000 mm raining. population is 2450000 in an area of 14000 km2. Rasht is the provincial capital & biggest city & almost 40 percent of Gilan province inhabit in Rasht . Rasht is just 350 km from Tehran and a highway connect Rasht to the capital . Road to Rasht from Tehran is a beautiful one with so many natural sightseeing such as mountainous jungles , Manjil Dam on Sepidroud river , Hashem mausoleum & olive farms .  Anzali is the main port on Caspian sea & second digest city in Gilan Province .  most of Gilan touristy attractions are located by one or two hour drive from Rasht .

Gilan Attractions are as below :

Masouleh Special village : Masuleh architecture is unique. The buildings have been built into the mountain and are interconnected. Courtyards and roofs both serve as pedestrian areas similar to streets. Masuleh does not allow any motor vehicles to enter, due to its unique layout. It is the only city in Iran with such a prohibition. However, the small streets and many stairs simply wouldn’t make it possible for vehicles to enter. to get more information about Masouleh click here 

Lahijan : Lahijan city just one hour drive from Rasht . Its culture and climatic favorable condition have made Lahijan a major tourist hub in northern Iran . Lahijan city is the main center of Tea plantation & their special cookies . Historically, Lahijan is the first town in Iran to have tea plantation. as a result of its mild weather, soil quality and fresh spring water, Lahijan stands to have the largest area of tea cultivation in Iran. One of the most notable families involved in the tea industry was the Fallahkhair family.there is a cable car in the city center which takes you to the hills ( Sheitan Kouh )  to see the whole city from above . national tea museum is also another attraction to be visited . 

Fouman : Fouman city is also another city about one hour from Rasht on western part . on both side of the fouman – rasht road you can see the endless rice farms . Fouman is the city of statues . all over the city you can see so many diffrent statues of Gilan traditions , people etc .Fuman also produces popular cookies known as koluche. Fuman cookies is thinner and larger than cookies of Lahijan.

Roodkhan Castle:  There is a historical castle near Fouman called Rood-khaan castle belong to at least 1400 years ago . some believes the local rulers made it to protect the inhabitants from arab invasion in 690 AD .  The castle is built on two tips of a mount, with an area of 2.6 hectares (6.4 acres). Its architects have benefited from natural mountainous features in the construction of the fort. 

Anzali Port : Anzali is a harbor town  on the Caspian Sea, close to Rasht. Anzali is one of the most important seaports in the north of Iran.  Tourist attractions include a clock tower called Manareh, the long harbour promenade, and the water-logged delta of and beach along the Sefid River.
